Salon Star: Madeleine Mae Saunders from TONI&GUY, Spain

Colour Technician, Stylist, Educator and Pro-braider Madeleine Mae from TONI&GUY Spain talks us through her TONI&GUY journey

January’s #SALONSTAR Madeleine Mae Saunders, Colour Technician, Stylist and Educator from TONI&GUY Spain, talks us through her love of braids, being featured In Estetica and why she loves working for TONI&GUY!

Why do you love working for TONI&GUY?

For me, TONI&GUY is a company that helps you grow and get as far as you like if you put your hard work and effort in to it. And, of course, the amazing team beside me.

Your favourite label.m product to use?

The label.m Texturising Volume Spray because it gives you a matte finish. Fantastic for editorial looks, giving a lot of texture and volume.

What made you want to be a hair stylist?

The passion that my sister Laura shared with me for hairdressing really inspired me. Every little detail she shared that eventually made it become my dream. I then went on to start my career at TONI&GUY by doing the beginners course in Valencia!

How was it being featured in Estetica?

Being featured in Estetica was a great motivation for me, it helped me see my work from a different point of view, it helped me work harder on my collections and made me realise how far my work can actually go.

What inspires you?

Many things inspire me, you can get inspiration from almost everything. I get inspired from social media, the TONI&GUY collections each year, other people’s work or catwalks and hair videos, I even get inspired by things that have nothing to do with hair. I think there’s a lot of people I look up to that also inspire me.

Why is braiding so special to you?

There’s a real focus on fashion hair, including braids at TONI&GUY which is great. For me I love the practice it takes to make them perfect, the detail in every braid, the different shapes you can create and the different looks you can get out of them.

Your favourite braid?

It would have to be the French braid because you can create many different looks with it.

What’s your biggest hair trend prediction for 2018?

For me in 2018 there is a lot of exciting trends coming through, but as we can see in a lot of campaigns we have multi-textures, bigger volume and a lot of influence from the 70’s.

One thing you hope to achieve this year at work?

This year I will be achieving more of my education skills as part of the 2018 Breakthrough Team, so apart from keep learning myself I will be making sure I can share it with others.
