TONI&GUY London Fashion Week Hair Trend Report: AW19

Celebrating 30 seasons as Official Sponsor of London Fashion Week alongside Official Haircare Product, label.m.

This season the award-winning TONI&GUY artistic and session team created hair backstage for 32 talented global designers including Paul Costelloe, Pam Hogg, Merit Award winner Tolu Coker and Queen Elizabeth II British Design Award winner, Bethany Williams.

From all the shows, our expert team have predicted the following trends to be AW19’s most wanted hair looks…

Autumn/winter hair trend one: Waves

As seen at: i-am-chen AW19 and Kalissi AW19

i-am-chen AW19 saw International Artistic Director and London Hairdresser of the Year 2017, Indira Schauwecker, and the TONI&GUY Session Team adopted the designer’s approach of minimalism by keeping the front simple – but contrasted against more complex detailing with sculpted deep waves at the back.

At Kalissi AW19, inspired by the designer’s vision of Austrian Aristocracy mixed with 70’s ‘posh housewife’, Cos Sakkas and the TONI&GUY Session Team reflected this theme with deep waves that worked beautifully with the tailored silhouettes and strong colours of the collection.

Autumn/winter hair trend two: Buns

As seen at: Paul Costelloe AW19, Simon Mo AW19, Tata Naka AW19

If anyone knows how to make a messy bun look chic, International Artistic Director Indira Schauwecker and the TONI&GUY session team do! At Paul Costelloe AW19, the team created natural-looking utilitarian top knots that were youthful, yet simple to complement the theme of the collection.

Over at Simon Mo, International Artistic Director Jon Wilsdon and the TONI&GUY Session Team created a triple-knot effect with textures that were dry, exaggerated and matted. Pulling some hair forward, framing the face, to give a more undone look to the hair.

Autumn/winter hair trend THREE: Braids

As seen at: Tolu Coker AW19 and Bethany Williams AW19

Braids continued to be a major hair trend this season with International Artistic Director Efi Davies preserving her ‘queen of braiding’ crown.

For Merit Award winner Tolu Coker’s first London Show at Fashion Scout, she worked with male and female afro hair, which was all about enhancing differing textures and shapes - giving each model a completely unique look.

For hair at Bethany Williams AW19, the Queen Elizabeth II British Design Award winner, Efi and the TONI&GUY Session Team opted for a playful approach, where they interlaced vertical braids with brightly coloured reused materials including wool yarns in oranges and greens and eye-catching royal blue satin ribbons, all of which complimented the colours entwined into the clothing.
